One of the many creatures brought to Aevonhold during the thinning, Griffons are wise and noble creatures that bond closely with their rider. They feel most at home in the skies, but are sometimes found on ruined towers or mountain peaks to rest.

A wolf of larger size found within both Deurlyth and Volvar, the Direwolf is a sizable beast strong enough to carry a person on their back. To many, the Direwolf is a dangerous companion, for they are both violent and have unpredictable. Despite their flaws, Direwolves are loyal beasts, so long as their hunger is satisfied.

It should be noted that dragons have been feared and worshiped through all ages. Any interaction with or talk of dragons may mean a confrontation with superstition. They are animals cloaked in mystery and admiration, but they are animals. Every species of dragon has an expansive variety of breeds which may display different attributes. The descriptions in this book are generally accurate for the species. Most dragons can understand speech and reason; in rare cases, they can speak. It is unwise to approach any dragon; while they can understand speech, they are more likely to have no interest in the pleadings of humans or, in the case of the sharper species, exploit the approacher. The closest humans have come to "taming" a dragon have been the Volvarians with their dragon charms, which is more accurately described as a high-risk, temporary domination. So while dragons can be influenced by a charm or in some rare cases persuaded, the venture to tame or control a dragon via any technique would be foolish and most likely fatal.
